Welcome to Creative Corner, located near Altoona, Iowa! Creative Corner opened in August of 2016. Creative Corner is not a typical daycare, but rather an in home preschool/ learning environment for preschool aged children. My name is Ms. Laurie, and I am the teacher at Creative Corner. With 10 years of early elementary teaching experience in a public school, an early childhood and reading endorsement, and a Master's Degree in Education, I can offer an age appropriate and educational preschool experience for 4 & 5 year-old children. My program will be full of developmentally appropriate themes and activities, to get your child ready for kindergarten, while having fun learning and exploring. This in home preschool offers a half day morning program, WITH EXTRAS! Creative Corner's doors open at 7:30 a.m. Your child will receive structured learning time every morning, with a learning program that goes from 8:30-11:30. I will never have more than 5 children, so your child will receive a substantial amount of 1:1. This means I can help with academic and social skills, and focus on individual needs. I can also take the children on numerous field trips that go along with our weekly/monthly themes. EXTRAS: I can also transport to Delaware, for their afternoon preschool program, for those who choose the benefit of both a small in home preschool and a larger classroom setting. If you choose this option, I will also offer an hour of after school care, if needed. I will be following the Southeast Polk School District's calendar, with the same holidays and spring/summer breaks. I will be using the Creative Curriculum Preschool 4th Edition, as well as Preschool Palace: Preschool Curriculum Kit for ideas . Creative Corner Program
This program will be perfect for 4 and 5 year old children. Unlike most preschool programs, I can offer 1:1 accommodations. I will never have more than 5 children attending my preschool. My goal is to give your child the tools needed to be successful in kindergarten. This can be extra help with academics, social skills, behaviors, speech, etc. I have been gaining insight through The Creative Curriculum for Preschool (4th edition) for ideas, as well as Preschool Palace: Preschool Curriculum. I willaccommodate to different abilities and learning styles . Each month will focus on 3 letters, a color, a shape, and a number. Each month will also include age appropriate themes, such as: friends, community helpers, 5 senses, fairy tales, under the sea, rhyme time, and much more! I will be giving your child the opportunity to grow through developmentally appropriate themes and activities. I will incorporate weekly/monthly (depending on themes) field trips into our curriculum. Our plans will also include daily sensory play, cooking (many of our snacks will go along with our theme!), exercise, songs, music, finger plays, and games. The best way for children to learn is through experience and play. We will have loads of fun, while learning through play! Schedule
Creative Corner opens at 7:30, with my preschool program starting at 8:30. Our daily schedule will always involve calendar time, a morning message, a read aloud, theme study, alphabet time, center time, and time for your child to play outside. I will provide a lunch for the students after recess. Music will be a huge part of your child's day at Creative Corner, as well as learning through play and exploration. With low numbers (5), the students will be able to go on numerous field trips to enrich our experiences and themes. If families choose to have their children participate in Delaware's 4 year-old afternoon preschool program on top of my in home program, I will transport there, as well. There can be a big benefit for children receiving instruction from a small in home setting as well as a large classroom setting. I will offer extra after school care, with parent pick up at 4:30. I will follow the SEP school district's calendar, with the same breaks and vacations. I can offer a recommendation for a wonderful daycare provider who lives nearby and offers full and part time positions. This can help if you choose half day, or need help during calendar breaks. This truly will be a unique, one-of-a-kind setting!
Meet the teacher
I always wanted to teach, ALWAYS. And when I finally began that journey in 2003, I loved it...and couldn't imagine doing anything different. I began my journey in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I started working as a creative movement teacher in a preschool. I then helped to teach preschool until I was asked to teach a private kindergarten classroom. I taught kindergarten for 2 years in Colorado, and then my husband and I moved back to Iowa. I taught 7 years of kindergarten, and one year of first grade for a near-by school district, just outside of Des Moines. I loved every minute of it! It wasn't until we adopted our son (Eli) from South Korea that our world turned upside down. I took two years off from teaching to help him through developmental, academic, and behavioral struggles. I accompanied him to Occupational and Speech Therapies, learning from the therapists as I went. I began using those techniques, along with my previous school teaching techniques, to help teach Eli from home (when he wasn't in 1/2 day preschool). Eli has grown so much physically, emotionally, socially, academically, and behaviorally in the last 2 years. It has really opened my eyes to the joy of teaching from the comfort of my own home. It just "clicked" one day (after bringing all of my teaching supplies home from my classroom-ha!) that I could provide learning, structure, fun, and play to other preschool aged children for years to come!
